Hotel & Motel Safety Tips

Tip #1 - Use the main entrance to the hotel whenever possible especially in late in the evening. This entrance tends to be more well lit. Be watchful before entering or exiting the hotel's parking lot.

Tip #2 - Do not open the door before you have verified who is at the door. If a person states that they are a member of the hotel's staff, call the front desk to confirm whether or not an associate was scheduled to enter your room and, if so, for what purpose. Uniforms and fake ID badges are fairly easy to come by. Do not rely on the person's appearance only as the basis for allowing them into your room.

Tip #3 - Close the door to your hotel room securely while in your suite and after exiting your suite. Once in your room use all locking mechanisms available.

Tip #4 Do not display your guest room keys while out in public. Likewise, keep your hotel room keys safely stowed away so they cannot be easily stolen.

Tip #5 - Do not draw unnecessary attention to yourself by displaying expensive looking jewelry or large amounts of cash. Even fake jewelry that looks expensive can make you a target for some thieves.

Tip #6 - Do not allow strangers to come into your room.

Tip #7 - Most hotels have a safe-deposit box (usually provided free of charge) at the front desk and are happy to safely deposit your valuables for you while you are staying with them.

Tip #8 - Hotel parking lots are not always monitored. Be sure not to leave any valuables in your vehicle during your stay.

Tip #9 - Ensure that all connecting suite doors and windows are locked before turning in.

Tip #10 - Report any suspicious activities to the hotel management immediately.
